The Controller of Budget, Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o, was on Friday 1st December 2023 conferred with the Award of Fellowship of the Institute of Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (ICPAK).
FCPA Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o, now a Fellow of the Institute, spearheads the publication of quarterly reports on budget execution and highlights key issues on public finance principles as articulated in Article 201 of the Constitution. Dr. Nyakang’o has been vocal on prudent expenditure and participated in several national discourses articulating the tenets in the Public Finance Management Act of 2012.
Dr. Nyakang’o is also a recipient of the Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) commendation by former President H.E Uhuru Kenyatta and had received further recognition from ICPAK in 2020 for her outstanding contributions. She has also made significant contributions to the Association of Women Accountancy of Kenya (AWAK).
Mr. Stephen Masha, EBS the Deputy Controller for Budget, was also recognized during this occasion and conferred with the Award of Fellowship. Mr. Masha is a member of ICPAK in good standing. In his capacity as the first Deputy Controller of Budget, Masha has been a driving force in developing frameworks for overseeing and reporting on the implementation of the budgets of the national and county government to parliament, county assemblies, the executive and members of the public through the publication of quarterly reports.
He actively contributes to the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (PSASB) and was conferred the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) honor in December 2022 by President William Ruto. Mr. Masha also received a commendation from ICPAK in 2020 for his services to the profession.

FCPA Mr. Stephen Masha, now a Fellow of the Institute, has been recognized for his distinguished services in promoting accountability, governance, and shaping the Public Financial Management (PFM) architecture.
The admissions to the College of Fellowship and conferment of the awards took place at an event dubbed the ‘10th ICPAK Chairmans’s Ball’ organized by the Institute of Public Accountants of Kenya and held at the Serena Hotel. This year’s theme was ‘Positioning Accountants as Leaders for the Next Generation’
