The Office of the Controller of Budget (OCoB) held a four-day induction in Machakos County, for its newly appointed Audit and Risk Committee, reaffirming its commitment to transparency, accountability, and prudent management of public resources.
The induction, held in Machakos brought together key officials from OCoB, facilitators from the Office of the Auditor General, and representatives from the State Corporations Advisory Committee. The objective was to familiarize the newly appointed committee members with OCoB’s mandate and their role in internal governance and financial oversight.
In his introductory remarks, the Deputy Controller of Budget, FCPA Stephen Masha, stated that the Audit and Risk Committee plays a crucial role in maintaining good governance within the institution. He explained that budget oversight is not just a routine process but a commitment to the values of public financial management. He added that the Committee’s independent oversight would help prevent misuse of public resources and ensure that funds are used in the best interest of citizens.
Welcoming the Committee members to this new role, the Controller of Budget, FCPA Dr. Margaret Nyakang’o, emphasized the importance of the Committee, describing it as a central pillar in OCoB’s governance structure. She stated that the Committee is expected to provide strategic guidance on financial reporting, risk management, and compliance. Dr. Nyakang’o noted that their work would contribute significantly to enhancing integrity and accountability within the institution.
